This artwork is inspired by the Hindu concept of harmony known as Yoni and Linga. Together they represent the cosmic mystery of duality that is found in all things. They are the two polarities of Creation, two halves of a whole - ‘the totality of all existence’.
Night and day, woman and man, dark and light, earth and sky, moon and sun, cold and hot, positive and negative, passive and active. Together they complete and complement each other, representing the union of opposites, the interdependence of all creation,
I created this artwork while on the peaceful shores of Long Island located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This remote and magical island consists of a lush jungle interior, white sandy shores and a warm village atmosphere. It was here that I witnessed the fiery sunset which the inspiration for the colors in this artwork came from.
As I stood on the peaceful shores of Long Island, without a soul in sight, the sky above me glowed in fiery reds and purples, filling my heart and my senses with its radiant glow. I felt the soft sand below my feet, while crystal waters danced in front of me, and the lush jungles behind me sang its song of life. In that moment my mind, body and spirit felt in complete alignment, and all of the Universe seemed to be in perfect Harmony.
Created with sand, stones, coral, shells and bindis from India + metallic acrylic and oil paint on a 1.5" deep gallery wrapped canvas.
